Some of you may wonder who turns the working dials of TEDxUniversityofGlasgow. Perhaps you are curious about what it is, exactly, that we do. Maybe you are planning to apply for one of our Brand Ambassador positions and you would like to see your future TEDx teammates. Whatever stimulates your curiosity, hopefully this post will give you a little insight into what we do, who we are, and what makes us tick.
Throughout the year, we work in six sub-teams to bring together our main annual conference. We also organise Salon events for the University of Glasgow community.
Each team has character as well as some characters within it ! Have a closer look at the team in the photoshoot (button below) or investigate further in the blog to find out why each of us became so interested in TEDxUofG.
What is TEDx ?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDx[name], where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDx[name] event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
TEDxUniversityofGlasgow is a platform for expressing innovations, encouraging thought, creativity, and collaboration. Come and experience the Open Auditions for TEDxUniversityofGlasgow 2018 ! The event will be created at the start of January 2018. In the meantime, why not check out the speakers from last year ?
TEDxUniversityofGlasgow would like to summarise the event and say thank you to the platinum sponsors and lead partner, Adam Smith Business School!
Glasgow, Scotland; 21/03/2018—TEDxUniversityofGlasgow 2018, the fifth annual TEDxUniversityofGlasgow conference took place on the 17th of March at the University of Glasgow. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, featured local voices and TED Talk videos under the theme of 'Press Pause To Begin'. The conference was held in Hunter Halls on University of Glasgow campus, with a record-breaking number of attendees, despite the involuntary pause we had to take which was caused by the 'Beast From The East'. We are grateful to our wonderful speakers and audience for coming along and sharing their ideas at the rescheduled event.
Press Pause To Begin
In our dynamic world, shaped by the rapid advancement in technology and changes in the socio-economic landscape, people strive to mirror this rapid pace. In our 24/7 online culture, it can often seem impossible to take a break. Indeed, often the attempt to pause remains a fruitless and frustrating endeavour.
Using 'Press Pause to Begin' as our theme this year, we stressed on the importance of both "to pause" and "to begin". In a world that emphasizes the vitality of advancement, we hope everyone can learn to "pause" and to approach challenges from new perspectives. "Pause" does not necessarily mean stop. Pausing means giving yourself the time to reflect and appreciate things that you may otherwise miss. Indeed, pausing can inspire creativity.
As a Chinese proverb says, "to rest is to walk further"; Pause is the Beginning, the beginning of a new journey that lies ahead.
